Problem with 82579LM Gigabit NIC Link Aggregation

$

Hi,

My question is, when I trying to create 802.3ad Link Aggregation.

(Lenovo ThinkPad W530, Intel 82579LM Gigabit NIC, Intel Ivy Bridge-MB IMC, Intel PantherPoint QM77, Windows 8.1 Pro)

It shows an alert dialogue, basically saying it cannot create 802.3ad, SLA or VMLB group with AMT enabled device.

But I already disabled Intel AMT and even Intel AT in my BIOS.

Are there any way to solve this problem or if can't, any work around?

Thank you!

Flow director not spreading the flows on processors

$

Hello,

I am trying to evaluate Intel's flow director technology on a system with a Xeon E5-2643 and 4x10G XL710 Adapter.

The traffic is generated with nuttcp from client1 to server1 and from client2 to server2 (See attached document).

I was expecting Flow Director to pin each flow (different 5 tuples) on a dedicated processor ... but it does not seems to be the case. The flow are always be handle by the same processor.

Am i missing something ? shouldn’t the second flow be on a different queue (processor) ?

Thanks

ESXi 6 X710 Port Speed configuration

I have several X710-DA2 cards in the ESXi Server. When I leave the port speed of that cars as it is everything works fine. When I try to change the speed to 10GBit I get an error message: "Forcing 1000Mbps or faster may not be supported on this network device, please use auto-negotiation instead"

After that all X710 ports go offline and I cannot be activated again. The link is down and the vmnic has a red cross.

The only way to get it working again is to Restore the ESXi configuration backup that was made before the change.

Driver/Firmware is the following:

[root@localhost:~] ethtool -i vmnic4

driver: i40e

version: 1.2.48

firmware-version: f4.22.27454 a1.2 n4.25 e143f

bus-info: 0000:0d:00.0

Any ideas?

Strip vlan tag on receiving packets (in hardware)

Hi.

I want to strip the vlan tags on all receiving 802.1q packets in hardware. I'm using the Intel 82599 10Gigabit Ethernet Controller, and from what I have found out this can be done by modifying bits, like RXDCTL.VME. Is this correct? If so, where can I find the header files containing the bits I need to modify on my Ubuntu (I'm guessing on a default location)?

Or can this be done using IPMI?

All help appreciated.

"Unplugged" message immediately followed by "Now Connected"

Hi,

I have a 7.5 year Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3R motherboard running Windows XP service page 3. It has an integrated "Realtek RTL8168/8111 PCIe Gigabit Ethernet NIC" connected to Verizon FiOS.

Once or twice a year a message will pop up over the LAN icon in the task bar (the notification area in the lower right hand corner) saying the cable is unplugged. I humor it and check and as usual it is not. I move the cable to another PC and it was fine. If I wait a while or disable/re-enable it, it comes back.

I decided to buy a PCI-e ethernet adapter so I got:

I downloaded the latest XP drivers (2013, version 18.3). The installation was painless.

But, periodically, throughout the day, the following messages are displayed in rapid succession:

  • cabled is unplugged
  • now connected

I haven't been patient enough to sit and star and not do anything with the network.

Question: is there any debugging I can do to figure out why this is happening.?

I350-T4 Intel OEM - SR-IOV - This device cannot find enough resources that it can use. (Code 12)

Hey everyone, here is what ive done so far to get to this error shown in the 2012 R2 HyperV VM device manager under device called INTEL(R) I350 Virtual Function, the HyperV host is running 2012 R2 as well with all latest windows patches

Ive enabled the SR-IOV in the BIOS of my motherboard Asus Z10PE D8 running the latest Bios version

I am using an SR-IOV capable Ethernet card I350-T4 Intel OEM

Ive installed the latest intel driver on the Hyperv host and VM

Ive enabled the SR-IOV feature at the driver level on the host under device manager > network card properties> Advanced > virtualization

Ive created a Virtual switch with SR-IOV enabled

Ive added a network adapter to the VM pointing to that SR-IOV enabled switch and under the VM network adapter menu Hardware acceleration, enabled SR-IOV there too

When I add the network card, the device called INTEL(R) I350 Virtual Function #3 shows up in the VM as well as the MICROSOFT Hyper-V Network Adapter

The virtual function device has a warning symbol under device manager, it says: This device cannot find enough ressources that it can use. (Code 12) If you want to use this device you will need to disable one of the other deivces on this system

Any ideas what I am missing? I read online that some motherboard manufacture only enable SR-IOV on specific PCI ports, I looked at my motherboard documentation and there are no mention of this anywhere, only talks about the ENABLE DISABLE option in the bios that ive already enabled

And yes, the host and VM was rebooted multiple times during and after

Latency problem with Linux e1000e driver with 82579LM controller

Hello,

We have a problem with Linux e1000e driver on an on-board e1000e controller, (listed as 82579LM). We have pinpointed the problem to a very simple test case.

A task sends an UDP packet every 5ms. Most of the time, this happens in a few microseconds, but from time to time, this can take a few multiples of 50 microseconds.

Instrumenting the driver, we found that the lost time happens in the function e1000e_update_tail_wa, where the function waits for the register at offset 0x05B54 to contain the bit 0x01000000. We understand from the code that using this register is a workaround for the 82579 chip. Looking at various datasheets, we were not able to find a documentation of what this register does and a description of exactly what this workaround is needed? Since this workaround is consuming time, is there any way we could replace it with say, a software spinlock?

Question about teaming in Windows 10?

$

Hi people,

(please be gentle, I am new and this is my first post, so sorry if I offende anyone with my silly question).

I have a MSI Big Bang XPower II (x79) motherboard which has dual Intel ethernet ports: Supports dual PCI Express LAN 10/100/1000 Fast Ethernet by Intel 82579V and 82574L.
In Windows 7, 8 and 8.1 I always could team these 2 ports, however with Windows 10 (build 240) this seems to be impossible?his

Is it true this is impossible? I tried almost everything already. I have to download the latest Intel drivers, because the default drivers in Windows 10 don't allow teaming. But when I download them and install the drivers, it doesn't work. The teamed connection stays disabled. When I check the team driver it's really, really old...?

Anyone experiencing the same with Windows 10? Or anyone has an idea? Or should I just remain patient until Intel releases a working driver for teaming in Windows 10?

Thank you in advance.

Hi,

ip link set fi0 vf 0 mac 00:6f:2a:01:f0:00

Intel i350 teaming issue

$

Hello.

Could someone help with the problem below?

The case:

We have set up teaming for 2 network interfaces.

There is huge multicast UDP traffic.

Sometimes we need to join and leave multicast addresses to start\stop listening the data.

After the messages (below) appear in Event log the teaming falls apart.

Event Log:

Current Primary Adapter is switching from: Intel(R) I350 Gigabit Network Connection

Preferred secondary adapter took over: Intel(R) I350 Gigabit Network Connection

Secondary Adapter has rejoined the Team: Intel(R) I350 Gigabit Network Connection

Preferred primary adapter has been detected: Intel(R) I350 Gigabit Network Connection

Current Primary Adapter is switching from: Intel(R) I350 Gigabit Network Connection

Preferred primary adapter took over: Intel(R) I350 Gigabit Network Connection

Little research shows that the problem was initiated by Intel diver in case there are no some heartbeats (even if a heartbeat was late for milliseconds (~100 msec)).

We tried to introduce some delay (2sec) between join\leave multicast group and it allows us to see the problem much less frequently but the problem is still here.

Also we set the settings:

Check Time: 3

Load Balance Refresh Rate: 50

Hi,

P.S. This is a lower priority problem than what is being discussed here: "Unplugged" message immediately followed by "Now Connected"

When I play music from WAV files on my PC through a LaCie Firewire 800 PCI adapter and am connected to the internet the PC periodically dies with:

    BSOD

    Target_mdl_too_small

    Stop: 0x00000040 (0,0,0,0)

While staring at the blue screen there is warbling coming out of the speakers.

I recovered by powering off/on and not playing music while connected to the internet.

I did a little research:

search: https://www.google.com/search?q=bsod+Target_mdl_too_small

TARGET_MDL_TOO_SMALL blue screen errors can be caused by a variety of

hardware, firmware, driver, or software issues.

search: bsod target_mdl_too_small lacie stop 0x40

    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/hardware/ff558972%28v=vs.85%29.aspx

"This is a driver bug. A driver has called the IoBuildPartialMdl

function and passed it an MDL to map part of a source MDL,

but the target MDL is not large enough to map the entire range

        of addresses requested."

My PC is :

7.5 year Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3R motherboard

Windows XP service page 3

Intel EXPI9301CT 10/ 100/ 1000Mbps PCI-Express Desktop Adapter Gigabit CT,

which is being used instead of the integrated "Realtek RTL8168/8111 PCIe Gigabit Ethernet NIC" connected to Verizon FiOS.

Question: is there any debugging I can do to figure out why this is happening.?

Thanks,

Bill
