L2 VM using SRIOV with 82599ES

Hi,

I am trying to run a VM that wont have an ip address but instead will work in transparent mode (like a cable). I have a PF that has 7 VFs on it and some of these VFs are part of VLAN x and some VLAN y. Here are my issues:

1. I see that the bcast traffic is sent to all VFs regardless, can I change it so that only bcast for the related VLAN arrives on th VF?

2. As the traffic that I generate has a different dest IP/MAC than my transparent VM, the VF should be in promiscuous mode. Is it enough to set "trust on" with ip link?

What I am trying to do is, to pass the traffic from VM1 to VM2 over the transparent VM.

VM1 --  TransparentVM -- VM2

Thanks,

Hi,

Can i use PCI-Passthru and SRIOV on the same hosts for different ports? ens1f0-1 SRIOV with multiple VFs and ens2f0-1 pci-passthru ?

I have 2 apps on the same hosts one supports SRIOV and the other one only supports pci-passthru.

thanks,

I am designing a system that will use the x550.  I want to have the future possibility of IEEE 1588 precision time protocol.  The SDP (software defined pins) of the x550 will be connected to an FPGA for this purpose.  Is it important to have an ultra accurate clock source on the x550 for 1588?  Or does the FPGA require this clock source?

Missing Advanced Network Service option during install

I'm upgrading some of my servers that have Intel X520-DA2 nics in them.  I'm installing Server 2016 Standard.  I've downloaded the latest Prowinx64 (v22.0.1).  When I install I don't have the option for Advanced Network Service, so I can't do NIC teaming.  I could/am doing NIC teaming with X520 on Server 2012R2 Standard.  Is there something else I need to download or install?

Thanks,

Voltage levels are not as per the specs of I210

Hi,

We are using Intel's Atom processor with Springville I210 controller as Ethernet PHY.

The PCIe port of Atom processor is connected to Springville to convert PCIe into MDI signals which are then connected to an Ethernet PHY switch.

We are using this link at a speed of 100Mbps.

Concern here is that, the voltage levels of MDI signals which are coming out from Springville is around 5V pk-pk. This is not as per the standard specs of MDI signals.

Can any one please suggest if any settings has to made to correct this,

Pradyumna

Problems with [Intel I218-V] Ethernet adapter

$

Hi!

long story short, I am having abnormal disconnection + slow speed with [Intel I218-V] Ethernet adapter.

and I'm pretty sure there is problem with [Intel I218-V] based on reasons I stated bottom.

I've built my PC last year around this time, and my current build is

OS- Windows 10 64bit

CPU- [intel i7 5820k]

MoBo- [Asus sabertooth X99]

RAM - [32GB Gskill trident 3200]

GPU -[MSI RX480 4GB]

and I use [Netgear powerline] 1200 for my Ethernet connection

Now, here is problem I found out recently.

My MoBo [Asus sabertooth X99] has 2 Ethernet adapter which are [Intel® I218V] and [Realtek® 8111GR]

When I first built this PC, I do not remember how fast the internet speed was, but I believe [Intel® I218V] acted little faster than  [Realtek® 8111GR],

So I only used [Intel® I218V] adapter.

Internet worked fine, but every day, around specific time (4-6 AM EST), I lost connection for about 5 min.

First, I thought it was problem with my ISP, because I heard they reset things sometime, but it happen too often and when I contacted my ISP, they said there seems no abnormal disconnections around my area. and ISP wasn't the problem because of my second concern.

Second, I was expecting that my old router causing the random disconnection, but then, whenever this disconnection happens in my PC, Wi-Fi from my smartphone which was connected to same router worked just fine.

Third, I thought it was problem with Powerline from Netgear. but for this, I have no idea to figure out what and where the problem would be.

could be device failure, or my house resets power once a while, I really don't know.

I mean, it was disconnected only for like 5 min-ish, yet it bothers the hell out of me since it almost happen everyday.

and not only around 4-6 AM, random disconnection happened as well.

It happened yesterday as well around same time (4-6AM).  my WiFi was still working, and I got little sick of it, so I took out my Ethernet cable from [Intel® I218V] and connected to [Realtek® 8111GR].

Internet worked right away which was fine.

but I felt somethings little different, then I noticed things loads quicker than before in internet browser.

I reconnected my Ethernet cable into [Intel® I218V].

internet worked fine, so I ran internet speed test.

result was

Down : 10mbps (highest 20mbps maybe)

Up : under 5mbps

when I first built this PC, I remember that it was way higher (40-50mbps)

because I was happy with improvement from my super old PC which was only getting 20mbps.

I pulled cabled again and connected it into  [Realtek® 8111GR] then ran the speed test

it got 50mbps download and it was stable.

I do not know what happened and what changed things past 1 year.

anyone having similar problem? know any solution to bring [Intel® I218V] back?

I've tried some different thing from my research, mostly simple/easy modifications.

like changing power saving option.

delete/reinstalling latest driver.

and seems like it didn't do anything to it.

My question is can these Ethernet adapters wear-off? or get damaged from power via Ethernet cable?

+in addition, even though down speed from test was 10mbps for [Intel® I218V] and 50mbps for [Realtek® 8111GR].

when I try download actual things via applications or internet browser,(for example, 10-20GB sized games from Steam) both adapter got pretty much similar download speed (6.8MB/s max).

but still, picture, video from youtube, and websites load much much faster with [Realtek® 8111GR].

+in Advance option what kind of setting might help?

here is my current setting

Greetings,

I'm following the directions from document 513655. Running EEUPDATE shows my two i210 controllers (one working, and one blank). Using both EEUPDATE & LANConf to attempt to program the blank flash results in a timeout error that occurs after 5+ minutes of the tool claiming that it is writing to flash.

LANCOnf gives the following: c86a0004 - "Timeout Error" when programming i210 blank flash

I'm using the following versions on an Intel Atom E3815 processor on Ubuntu 16.04.2

eeupdate64e: EEUPDATE v5.26.17.11

lshw shows the driver as: driver=igb driverversion=5.3.0-k

I've tried flashing with multiple 4Mb files onto a 4Mb flash On Semi LE25U40CMC

Hi,

I have a Linux station with an Intel i354 ethernet controller. I'm trying to use LLDP for discovery between these stations, but it does not seem to work. If I use other interfaces, with different NICs, the LLDP utilities work ok. Could someone give me some hints on what might be wrong?

Hello,

I would like to use the i210-AT as part of a 1000BASE-T backplane design. I have a plug-able network switch with on-board magnetics and would like to interface to an i210-AT without adding an additional transformer.

I came across a thread that discussed this application and included the name of an application note, but i have been unable to actually find the app note or any official documentation.

I was trying to test 100base T in Mdix mode, however Lanconf doesn't support MDI-x directly, looks like phy register has to be modified in order to get signal in mdix mode.

Does anybody know how to make these changes.?

Re: VLAN adapter not working after reboot - Win10, 22.0.1

Hi all,

Same problem here.

One tagged VLAN (6) and untagged VLAN. After every reboot the untagged VLAN doesn't work until I disable and re-enable the Untagged VLAN virtual adapter. The VLAN6 doesn't present this problem and can ping other hosts in the same VLAN.

NIC is connected to a Cisco switch with the following config:

nwcore2#sh run | s 2/0/39

interface GigabitEthernet2/0/39

description AURELIO (0B39D)

switchport trunk allowed vlan 1,6

switchport mode trunk

spanning-tree portfast trunk

spanning-tree bpduguard enable

Let me know if you need any information to try to detect the issue. As ziesemer I have no dump as the system doesn't crash.

Best regards

Aurelio Llorente

ULP enable/disable utility. Where to get?

Same issue as seen elsewhere with the i218-V on a dozen Lenovo e550. Rather than going to two remote locations and popping the cmos on the lot, I'd like to give the ULP enable/disable utility a try.
